What is it like to volunteer at a humane society?

I would love to volunteer at my local humane society this summer, what age do most let you do this? I am 14, and I have always grew up with animals and want to be a vet some day. What is it like and what are the jobs? Thank you!

I really need to get volunteer hours in for NHS but I really dont know how I can get in the postition to volunteer to help the humane society. I really want to be a vet so this the perfect volunteer work. Thanks
