What is a good book that deals with how fashion affects society?

I’m looking for a good book, fiction or non-fiction that has a theme dealing with fashion’s affect on society to use as a main text to analyze for my research paper. Any suggestions?

was the society in the book 1984 capitalistic? What are some evidence?

I felt that it wasnt really a capitalistic society because a capitalist society would have way more freedom than the society in 1984.

What novels display one social class having a negative impact on society?

Hey I am looking for two novels to do an essay on. I’ve decided to go along the theme of how one society’s poor ethical values and apathy cause the entire society to suffer. The book is called Grendel. Not what you said. And he does become part of a society. A very corrupt one where he becomes disgusted with what he sees. However, he becomes drawn into it like everyone else.
