What do I need to know about Society Finches?

My sister’s friend has Society Finches and they had eggs. This week they should be hatching, and we are getting two.

So what I need to know is: what equipment do I need, how do they act, etc.

Is it possible to tame a society finch outside of hand feeding?

I have two society finches which I would like to tame to the point that they don’t panic when I place my hand in their cage. Is it possible to calm them through other methods (besides clipping their wings)? Or is it possible to hand feed them even though they’ve already been raised in an environment in which they were not hand fed?

How many days does it take for a society finch to build a nest after being brought home from pet store?

I bought a pair of bengalese/society finches 3 days ago.

I have put nesting material (hay) into the cage but they are not interested.

Have I put it in too soon? Are they settled yet? If not when should I supply them with nesting material?

I have 3 society finches: 1 female and 2 males. They’re around 6-7 months old. I will be getting a female Society finch of the same age and also from the same place these 3 came from. How old do they have to be in order to mate and lay eggs? Thanks!

How long does it take for Society finches to decide they want to nest?

My zebra finches and society finches breed constantly and I was wondering how long it will take for them to realize it’s time to build a nest and lay eggs? I’ve supplied them with a few nests in each cage so that they have a choice with location, and there is nesting material in the bottom of their cages. They’re seperated; not in the same cage. 1 pair to a cage.

I have 3 Society Finches that were born in the spring, so they’re 6-9 months old. I found out there’s two males and one female. Once they pair up and all, how old do they have to be to start mating?
