Is the veil of ignorance the only fair way to structure society?
According to Rawls (and other social contract theorists before him) this is the only way to make society fair. Upon structuring law, voting, and deciding on legislation; we ought to have a metaphorical “veil” which shields us from knowing our place in society (gender, ethnicity, income, career, social class, age, etc.) and that way we will make laws according to what is most fair for everyone knowing that we could in fact be “anyone” in society.
Is this the way to go?
Further: what might this society look like? More liberal? More conservative? Neither?
