Because our society has a history of Puritanism. Other cultures (greek, etc.) have embraced sexuality. In America, the Puritans started our nation on strict values and moral codes. Over time, these strict ideals have lessened.

I have thought about that over and over….and i have not come up with an acceptable answer. It is the general thought that it is okay, but i don’t think it is. i think it is disgusting, an excellent way of getting diseases, getting pregnant and ruining your life. I really don’t know if society will ever get back to normal. only time will tell. maybe it will get worse, or maybe it will go back to how it was 100 years ago. who knows?

Well, this is a tough question.

Admittedly, I have VERY liberal attitudes about sexuality, but I think it should be mixed with a level of responsibility that many simply lack.

I see no problem with outright voyeurism and nudity, and support **** or consentual adult voyeurism. I see nothing wrong with promiscuity, per se, BUT I am huge against dishonesty, cheating and the like. In other words, the inconsideracy of other people’s feelings and whatnot.

Also, there is a line. You can be promiscuous to a degree and it’s OK, but when you sleep with 10 people in one week, unprotected and are not the least careful or spread disease without caring, you need to be slapped……HARD. Not to mention even apart from sex, these types are often times shallow and lacking intellectually.

While I still identify with the ‘free love’/paganistic vibe regarding open sexuality, and am a ***** bi guy, many people are too stupid, to be blunt, to combine open sexuality with a significant level of maturity and responsibility.

I don’t think we’ll ever be puritanical in that sense again, but I would not want that. I would rather people just be open sexually and proud, BUT retain some intelligence about it.

I **** more the attitude that you cannot be BOTH an intelligent independent woman AND sexually adventurous. Like an intelligent ‘freak’ is a rarity.

Wow that is a great question and something over which I’ve often speculated. Off the top of my head, I think people got used to it little by little – once they got bored with the Elvis thing, it didn’t seem like such a big deal, and so on. Of course the sexual revolution had a lot to do with it – in the 60’s you had people running around topless, too.
I think it has a lot to do with being jaded about sexuality. I was raised in a very sheltered environment, and when I turned 18 and moved out, I wanted to know everything possible about everything – as a result, I ended up being a heroin addict and an exotic dancer for many years. I wasn’t embarrassed about anything.
Now that I’m clean and not dancing anymore, I feel like I want to warn people about unsafe behavior, but no, I’m still pretty jaded about it. So I think society won’t ever really go back to being hush-hush about sex, drugs and rock and roll.
