How does healthy living fit in with current society?
Do you think society encourages a healthy lifestyle, or encourages an unhealthy lifestyle? Do you think society ever discourages a healthy lifestyle?
What do you imagine most people think of when they hear “healthy”? All-natural foods? A healthy weight? Being in-shape? A combination of several things?
How can you tell if someone is unhealthy?
I’m simply curious to see what kinds of opinions people have about this broad topic. Write as much or as little as you like about any or all of the questions, or include another aspect of health and society if you have another opinion.

Who cares what society encourages???? Why would you allow the course of your life to be dictated by society? I think people are fat, lazy and self-indulgent. They chose that for themselves. I don’t think anyone else is in control of your life – unless you allow it.
Some people make god and church a priority. Others make healthy eating and exercise a priority. Some people make watching Big Brother and eating pizza a priority. It is all about the choices each person makes on a daily basis.

Seeing that obesity is on the rise in U.S.A., I’d say society is discouraging healthy lifestyle.
Society also put this irrational fear into people on what health really is,you always hear in an ad ” Wanna be healthy ? eat this yogurt ! “, you see people exercising excessively in gyms, the media sets up their marketing above health itself.
Junk foods are cheaper than healthy foods. fast food is faster than home cooked meal.

Where ever you live, it depends on where for a certain lifestyle to be encouraged, healthy or not.
For me, healthy is overweight, as in too high of a fat content. Or severely underweight. Things that you can’t necessarily see on the outside.
Yep.

I think we’re tempted into an unhealthy lifestyle, but society encourages us not to take the bait and become obese. Obesity is generally is generally frowned upon in America, and people are encouraged to go to the gym and shop for more healthy foods. However, some people aren’t able to resist the loads of unhealthy foods.
I think someone who is seen as “healthy” has a well-balanced diet (meaning a reasonable amount food from each section of the food pyramid), exercises every day, and maintains a low amount of fat.
Someone who is unhealthy is usually obese, or can be found sitting around a lot. There are other types of unhealthy too, like people who smoke, take drugs, or have some sort of illness. Those can’t always be recognized by sight.
